When my great-granny (former milliner, former minister at Aimee Semple McPherson's Angelus Temple) heard the Mercury Theater's War of the Worlds broadcast live, she believed the Second Coming was happening. (Not the good Second Coming, but the Jesus one.)

Religious books (with accompanying inscriptions) were her idea of good gifts.
