Using your chosen cutting implement, slightly enlarge the spring hole in one of the clothespin pieces and straighten the lip nearest the blunt end of the piece.

Here's a side view of what you want the former spring hole to look like. Note how one side of the notch is no longer sloped, but straightened. This is to enable the notch to hold the spring trigger without slipping.
